Our Vision

Arran is shaping its future as a resilient island where communities thrive, housing is affordable, transport connects people reliably, and meaningful work sustains families. Through the Arran Island Plan, we’re bringing together our community, economy and environment to make this vision reality.

The Plan in Action

The Plan works through three integrated areas – strengthening our community wellbeing and services, building sustainable local prosperity, and protecting our natural heritage. From village halls to businesses to regeneration projects, islanders are already working together to create positive change.

A New Model for Arran

We’re establishing an island-wide Community Benefit Society – a democratic structure owned by and accountable to Arran residents. Through community shares and cooperative governance, this will enable direct local control over island assets and resources while providing a practical framework to deliver the Plan’s initiatives.

Getting Involved

Join us in bringing the Plan to life. Discover local projects on our interactive hub, add your own initiatives, or attend interest group meetings. The Plan isn’t about top-down policies – it’s about nurturing collaboration so we can achieve more together.

Arran has no shortage of enthusiastic, skilled and creative people who are engaged in making it a great place to live, work and visit. The danger is that with so much development going on, people don’t get to hear about it all.
To bridge this gap, we’ve created an interactive listing of all the ideas initiatives that in some way are, or will, contribute to the Arran Island Plan.
